I took this photo from across a river inlet as a nearby caiman spooked the capybara into action. As the primary prey of all the Amazon's largest predators, capybaras remain constantly alert. In spite of their size and chunky build, I was surprised by how quickly they could move when danger appeared, covering the shallows with much needed speed and agility.
