Taken on the Patagonian island of Chiloé, this Rockhopper Penguin was a long way from where he's was supposed to be. The species normally breeds on remote islands far to the south, with their nearest breeding colonies located around the islands of Cape Horn and beyond.
Exactly how this penguin ended up here is anyone's guess, but he clearly wandered well outside his usual range. While the encounter provided a surprising opportunity to photograph one of the world's most distinctive penguins, it also seems safe to say that that particular bird did not find a mate that breeding season.
