While on a river bank in the Peruvian Amazon, I spent the morning tracking capybara prints in the mud hoping for an encounter. After an hour of patient stalking, keeping low and approaching from downwind, I captured this peaceful moment with one of the amazons most common yet elusive creatures. As the primary prey of jaguars, caimans, anacondas as well as humans! Capybaras are notoriously skittish.
