Razorbills have pretty bad eyesight, and instead of evolving better eyes to compensate, they evolved a white stripe running down their beak to reflect more light into their eyes so they can better pinpoint their prey. Nature works in mysterious ways.
This is my closest and most detailed portrait of a razorbill, taken on the cliff sides of the Isle of May, Scotland.
