Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia is the largest salt flat on Earth, vast doesnt do it justice. It doesn't feel real. Standing on this ancient island, the highest ground for miles and surrounded by an endless sea of white, I was marked by the utter scale of the place. The only sound was the whistling wind sweeping the flats.
Towering cacti define the character of the island, their silhouettes in contrast with the distant mountains that mark the border with Chile. It remains the most surreal landscape I have ever experienced. A true island in a sea of salt.
